Future, Sex, Computers – The Polish Ambassador

Fans of The Polish Ambassador (David Sugalski) and newcomers alike will not be disappointed in “Poland’s Ambassador to the Universe”’s most recent offering, an eleven-track passage through futuristic glitchscapes over pulsating retro synth lines. Future, Sex, Computers highlights Polish’s talents as a producer who understands the crucial chemistry between beat/bassline syncopation, talents that have in turn generated some of the most widely-appealing and accessible dance music I have ever heard. Undeniably infectious, Future, Sex, Computers is sure to instigate booty-shake and pop-lock wherever the album is bumped.

The album opens with uptempo throwdown, “Quantum Peeps”. Stratospheric leads soar above a chopping beat and glitched-out hip-hop vocals. “Quantum Peeps” serves as an ideal opener for the album, as the tune is more similar to what we have seen from TPA in the past (First Words, Diplomatic Immunity).

The remainder of Future, Sex, Computers tends more towards more bass-heavy, slower fare than some of the four-beat, music found in his earlier work. Sprinkled throughout are some quicker tracks to keep the heart pumping (particularly the wonderfully-entitled “Erotic Robotics”), however, the emphasis of the album points in a slower, less frenzied direction that calls to mind Sugalski’s other project as Ample Mammal.

This change seems to allow Polish more freedom to do what he does best, experimenting with rhythmic and vocal glitches, without the groove becoming too busy. This is exemplified in wobble-rich “Infinite Mammalia”, and the album’s closing track, “Dismantling Earth Based Authority Via Satellite”. Fans will also get a chance to sample TPA’s take on the now-rampant genre of dubstep, particularly on tracks “Glow Slowly” and “Lightening for Anyone”. Sugalski has a refreshing approach to the genre, saying “no” to the grime and  “yes” to the genre’s potential for ambience and funk.

My personal favorite, however, is the album’s ninth track, the sci-fi tribal stomper “Space Leaf Dub”. Samples from Collie Buddz dance around a minimal funk beat and low bouncing bassline that to me, represents the best of what the Polish Ambassador has to offer.
