Lotus "Lotus"

Lotus’ new self-titled album is one of the best complete albums I have heard all year. I do not know how to describe it, so I am not even going to try.

The first track Golden Ghost reminds me of that classic, jammy Lotus sound until about a minute in, when they drop a glitchy sample that totally funks everything up and lets me know that the classic, jammy Lotus sound I know has progressed into something… even better. The second track, Blacklight Sunflare, is currently my favorite song on the album. The high energy riff and electronic beats that drive the song sound like they are straight out of Zoogma’s playbook, so much that I have to think twice about if Lotus sounds like Zoogma or if Zoogma sounds like Lotus. Regardless, both bands kill it.

And Lotus is just getting started! They don’t even bring out the horns until track 3 with Bush Pilot, a funky, upbeat tune. The fourth track brings back the glitchy style and throws in a little wobble bass to get people like me intrigued about what is coming next! Track 7, Molloskunk, is another happy and upbeat tune with a funky rhythm that is easy to get along with – one of my favorites on the album. Molloskunk flows smoothly into Harps, which keeps it fresh and progressively funky. The last three tracks are mellow, yet distinctively Lotus and a solid ending to an incredible

Overall, this album is amazing, and has been playing in my car constantly since it came out on Tuesday, September 13. This cd is so good; it inspired me to write my first album review on it. Way to go Lotus. I can’t wait to see you guys live again!
